Day 2: Verona

What a trip! It is a long 2 flights, but we made it to Verona! We had a cabbie take us from the airport to our B&B! Giulia, our host, couldn't be there to meet us, so her friend Mia let us in and showed us around. The B&B is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with a shared kitchen just a block from Piazza Bra and the arena! We have a room with two twin beds, which is perfect for our first two nights adjusting to the time change. Mia proceeded to sit us down and speak with us for about an hour on the history on Verona. She had a tourist map and went around the city, citing dates, rulers and locations for nearly everything of importance in Verona. She knew it all, no notes or cheat sheet. She took such pride in the history of her country, it was inspiring and beautiful! She knew dates in U.S. history that I didn't even know. It was impressive and gave us a good basis to explore the city.

After Mia's debrief we set out to explore; it was about 7pm, so we didn't venture far. We walked along the Piazza Bra reading the restaurant menus, walked by the arena and The Alps fountain, and sat outside to eat a sandwich from a cute cafe. I knew that dining in Italy is never on a time schedule, but we sat at our table for maybe an hour and a half, 30 minutes of which we couldn't figure out how to politely ask for our check. Go figure! We called it a night a little early so that we can wake up early tomorrow and hit all of the tourist spots, with some extra time to wander and get lost in the streets of Verona!
