We traveled to Abilene, Teas this morning. It was a pretty quick car ride and it started with a stop at Starbucks, so I was a happy camper! When we got to the course, Bridget was driving and had to park the trailer. The tournament director had coned off a spot to put the trailer, so when we pulled over to the spot, there were cars on all sides of it. It was still possible to park it, but it was going to be stressful because the cars surrounding it were a Bentley, a Mercedes and a really nice ranch truck. Somehow she finagled it without hitting anything.
We set up HQ, did a few prep things and rode the course. It's a pretty course and it doubles back on itself a lot so you can see a lot of holes from one spot on the course. Plus, the course loops back by the clubhouse frequently which will be nice for following groups. For dinner, we went to the tournament chairman's house. He had a putting green in the backyard complete with a bunker, rough and a driving mat where you hit into a huge net. I was just going to putt around, but Brett offered to teach me how to chip which led him to actually teach me how to hold and swing a club. It was awkward at first, but I kept swinging and got more comfortable with it. I asked Brian to take a picture of Brett teaching me and he turned the camera to himself instead. The tournament chairman also gave us each goodie bags. They are really goodie hats: chips, a jar of salsa, a praline, water, coupons and a shirt all in a cowboy hat.
